MY HOLISTIC SERVICES

As a certified Massage Therapist specialising in a variety of holistic treatments, I regard each patient as a whole. When treating one part of the body it is important to consider the impact it might have on other systems. I also like to get to the root of the problem rather than constantly treating a symptom.

CUPPING THERAPY

A healing therapy that dates back thousands of years.

Cupping Therapy uses manual devices to generate the suction within the container.

The negative pressure created by the cupping device draws the skin and tissue into the cupping device. This creates a lift on the underlying tissue layers, with the goal of separating these layers, improving movement and decreasing friction between these tissue layers.  Ultrasound studies have shown the cupping can produce an effect on tissues up to 4 inches in depth below the surface of the skin.

By creating more space between tissue layers, there is a decrease in friction between tissue layers, and a decompression of blood and lymphatic vessels.  This can help improve circulation and lymphatic drainage.  All of these serve to improve range of motion, reduce pain, and decrease swelling.  This improves ease of movement and can increase performance, while reducing the risk of future injury.

Athletes often seek Cupping therapy for the benefits of improved mobility, reduced pain, faster injury recovery, decreased stress on tissues, and decreased risk of future injury.   Many high profile athletes have been photographed with the distinct round circles on their body.

While the benefits of Cupping Therapy for athletes is pretty clear, these same benefits are often sought after by everyday people, seeking to reduce pain and improve movement.

Cupping Therapy can be used as a stand alone treatment modality, but is often used in conjunction with other treatments to provide even better results.

Swedish Massage

SWEDISH MASSAGE

In Sweden, "Swedish massage" is simply known as "classic massage". And that is exactly what it is -- a classic treatment which represents the western standard for massage.  The five main techniques used in Swedish massage -- stroking and gliding; kneading; rubbing; tapping or pounding; vibration -- are probably what spring to mind when you think about a "typical" massage.

What is Swedish massage good for?

The various Swedish massage techniques are designed to improve your circulation, soothe your muscles and make you feel more relaxed.

Swedish massage uses softer strokes on the bonier and more delicate parts of the body, and stronger strokes where there is thicker muscle coverage. This adjustment of pressure makes it an ideal massage for relaxation.

Besides the calming benefits, Swedish massage is thought to be good for:

  • easing muscular strain by flushing out toxins

  • improving circulation by increasing oxygen flow in the blood

  • helping to keep ligaments and tendons supple

  • reducing emotional and physical stress.

Functional Integrated Dry Needling

Functional Integrated Dry Needling

Functional Integrated Dry Needling is a process where a small needle is inserted into the muscle to reduce tension and and adhesive areas, as well as on the flow of pain pathways and peripheral nerves with the intention to reduce pain and enhance movement, which has been restricted due to various pathologies. This procedure is not Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture, but instead is a medical treatment which requires medical diagnosis to be effective.
